Our Company

Founded in 1933 by Howard Keith, HK established a name for high quality upholstered products. Chairs like the Encore, Viking and Simplon and lounge seating such as Diplomat and Cloud ensured Howard Keith’s position as one of the country’s top furniture designers in the 40’s and 50’s. In the 1970’s HK started manufacturing high end conference tables and executive desks and became known for craftsmanship, quality and design winning contracts for major blue chip organisations such as The Bank of England, The Stock Exchange, Barclays and BP. Today we still specialise in high quality custom made executive and conference room furniture but have now added one off workstations and cabinets to our offering. While we still predominately manufacture in veneer we can now also work with solid wood, laminates, melamines, lacquers, glass and metal. Bespoke does not necessarily mean expensive.


We have a small selection of well researched, tried and trusted partnerships with specialist manufacturers in the UK and Europe. All highly skilled, these vary from individual carpenters for one off items to large factories capable of producing hundreds of pieces together providing us with significant manufacturing skills, capabilities and capacities. Whatever the size of project or product, everyone works to our detailed designs and totally understands the quality level HK needs to achieve for our customers. To combine with our own design and manufacturing capabilities we offer a portfolio of high quality open-plan desking and storage, task and meeting seating, conference and breakout products enabling us to recommend a complete solution.


Our veneers are transported from the country of origin to our merchants in the UK and Austria, either by boat if from the US or out of Europe, or by road if within the EU. We actively discourage the use of veneers that are endangered, or pose a risk to species through habitat destruction, or are associated with illegal trade and human rights issues.


Packaging is kept to a minimum, without compromising the safety of the product from damage. Following installation, the wrapping is taken away from site and disposed of in the correct fashion, recycling where possible. We aim to insist that all of our suppliers use biodegradable shrink wrap


We recommend and offer to provide a service to arrange the disposal and recycling of all surplus furniture. We can also provide the associated proof of disposal and offer confidential document shredding, again with proof of destruction.


When it comes to recommending our partner manufacturers we ensure that they:

  • Have taken positive steps to reduce their carbon footprints
  • Utilise recycled materials for their products
  • Produce products that are recyclable
  • Use wood veneers from countries with the strictest forestry legislation
  • Keep packaging to a minimum without compromising product protection
  • Recycle the packaging

Our belief that flexibility, high level design and service while maintaining HK’s traditional quality is paramount.


Every project we work on has a team of caring and talented professionals to ensure absolute accuracy in design, experienced quality monitoring on all manufacturing and total dedication by the project team to deliver correctly on time every time.


HK Designs offer a warranty for 6 years from completion on structural parts of the product. This does not include fabrics and veneers that are subject to wear and tear in normal day to day usage.
