“HK was one of the country’s top furniture brands in the 1940’s and 1950’s.”
Founded in 1933 by Howard Keith, HK was one of the country’s top furniture brands in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The company produced upholstered furniture of a simple design and modest size, to suit the size of new post-war homes, and a lighter, more open-plan style of interior architecture. This style was named “English Contemporary” and encompassed some of the most iconic chairs and sofas of the company’s history.
We have now teamed up with young British brand Galapagos to collaborate in re-issuing some of our most iconic upholstered chairs, sofas and stools from the 1950s.
In 2017, we are proud to bring a selection of HK’s unique designs back into production with the launch of the collaborative “Heritage Collection”. With shared values, and a focus on the quality of our frames, fabrics and craftsmanship, Galapagos and HK are bringing back into production three original seats: the Bambino and Encore chairs, and the Oracles stools. Made in the UK using traditional methods and true to the original design, they are a piece of true heritage design made anew for modern life.
